What is this financial aid check for?

Z questioned:

Last November, I got a check from financial aid for $2,150. I’ve been really behind on bills throughout the past couple of months and finished up spending half the money to pay those. Was this check intended for me to use as my tuition for the spring semester or was it a refund check for me to use as I please? Please help! School starts next week and I’m not sure if I’m responsible for that amount. Thank you in advance for any help.
